Man charged with murder of Long Beach teacher

LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County prosecutors have filed a capital murder case against a 50-year-old man accused of stabbing a teacher to death in front of her students at a Long Beach park.

The district attorney's office says Steven Dwayne Brown will be arraigned Wednesday afternoon on the murder count along with a special circumstance of lying in wait and an allegation of personal use of a deadly weapon.

Fifty-three-year-old teacher Kellye Taylor was stabbed in the neck on Oct. 11 while she was with her Huntington Academy students and other teachers at Orizaba Park. Prosecutors say the defendant was in a relationship with the victim's daughter.

Prosecutors will decide at a later date whether to seek the death penalty if Brown is convicted.
