BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — City firefighters said a suspected arsonist was arrested Tuesday.

Alfred Segobia, 41, was apprehended in the area of California State University, Bakersfield after reportedly starting a grass fire behind the nearby Chipotle Mexican Grill.

Firefighters said witnesses reported seeing Segobia set the fire. Crews didn't immediately know why or how the fire was started.

Segobia has prior convictions for drug offenses, for which he's served time in prison, according to a search of court records. He was also arrested in 1999 and charged with starting a fire on forest land, but that charge was eventually dismissed.

Fire crews remained on the scene of the grass fire for several hours to clean up the damaged brush. The fire was stopped at about 2 acres.
