Malibu man dies on I-5 through Kern County; 4 others hurt
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 25-year-old Malibu man died Monday night in a crash on Interstate 5 just south of Lerdo Highway in Kern County.
Jay Ogawa died at the scene. The Toyota he was riding in left the roadway and overturned about 8:45 p.m.
The California Highway Patrol said Tuesday that the driver, 34-year-old Eunice Lee, of Torrance, changed lanes into the path of another vehicle, a Nissan, causing a collision and forcing the Toyota to flip.
Lee suffered minor injuries, the CHP said. Three other Toyota passengers - 28-year-old Erica Krakovitch, of Los Angeles, 21-year-old Jeanine Wilson, of Newport Beach, and 22-year-old Piscilla Fu, of Alhambra - suffered injuries ranging from minor to major, according to the CHP.
The Nissan's driver was not injured, the CHP said.
