Lots of smoke, little damage in restaurant fire

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — City firefighters quickly stamped out a grease fire Tuesday at Zaika Indian Cuisine & Bar.

Billowy smoke could reportedly be seen shortly after the fire erupted midmorning at a shopping center at Ming Avenue and New Stine Road.

Bakersfield Fire Department Battalion Chief Garth Milam said the accidental kitchen fire was controlled quickly enough to prevent structural damage or damage to adjoining businesses.

Milam said he expects the restaurant to reopen soon after a bit of clean-up work and a health department inspection.
