BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Wednesday morning, a host of political leaders joined many in the local waste and recycling community as they officially opened a new sorting facility called Metropolitan Recycling Center.

The MRC is located off South Mt. Vernon and is the destination for any item you put in your blue recycling cart.

"That material has to go somewhere," said Larry Moxley of MRC. "We bring it here, sort it, recycle it, bale it, and ship it to market."

The site cost about $12 million. MRC will process some 30,000 tons of material a year from over 100,000 blue carts in Kern County.
