Kern County woman ordered to repay $133K from welfare fraud

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County District Attorney's office said a woman has been ordered to repay more than $130,000 she illegally obtained in cash and food aid through Medi-Cal and the Department of Human Services.

Miriam Gutierrez obtained the aid by making material misrepresentations of her identity, according to the district attorney's office.

Gutierrez was sentenced Tuesday to 360 days in county jail as part of her five-year probationary sentence.
