BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Fire Department is opening a new fire station to replace one on busy Rosedale Highway just east of Calloway Drive.

Grand opening for the new station, 10051 Meacham Road, was Thursday. The new station is just north of the old station - north on Calloway and then west on Meacham.

The new Station No. 65 will serve an area that saw an increase in emergency call volume of more than 81 percent over the last seven years, officials said.

The station, which is about 12,000 square feet, will accommodate as many as 11 firefighters and will house Truck 65, Engine 65, Patrol 65 and be the Battalion 6 headquarters.
