Jury convicts man accused of public masturbation

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A Kern County jury has convicted a man accused of public masturbation and exposing his genitals.

Brian Cox was convicted Thursday of a misdemeanor charge of annoying a child. The jury failed to reach a verdict on a charge of misdemeanor lewd exposure, the district attorney's office said Friday.

Cox was accused of masturbating in his car and exposing himself to two 12-year-old girls in September 2011. A woman took a video of Cox in his vehicle, which was used by authorities to identify him.

Cox could get a year in jail when he's sentenced later this month.
