Hwy. 99, Panama Lane ramp closes this weekend for roadwork

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Caltrans has announced some ramp closures beginning this weekend for the Highway 99 widening project in south Bakersfield.

The $33 million project will convert Hwy. 99 from six lanes to eight lanes from State Route 119 (south point of project) to the Wilson Road overcrossing (north point of project, near Valley Plaza Mall).

The project will add a 12-foot lane and 10-foot inside shoulder in each direction. Roadwork should be complete by summer 2014, according to Caltrans.

The southbound Hwy. 99 off-ramp to Panama Lane will be closed beginning Sunday evening. This full closure will last for approximately four weeks to allow crews to construct an auxiliary lane from Hwy. 99 to Panama Lane.
