BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Speaker John Boehner will join Central Valley congressmen Wednesday to announce emergency drought legislation.

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, of Bakersfield, said four Republican congressmen will hold a press event in Kern County. Boehner will appear with McCarthy, Rep. David Valadao, of Hanford, and Rep. Devin Nunes, of Tulare.

"We're in emergency time," McCarthy said about the short-term bill they plan to introduce. The bill would allow the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to pump more water over the next two years and "waive those regulations that are in the way for the year to make sure the water comes down" to Kern County, McCarthy said.

The congressmen also want to create an emergency bi-partisan joint committee to find long-term solutions to California's water woes.
