KERNVILLE, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- The Shell Gas station in Kernville was destroyed by an early morning fire on New Year's Day.

The 3,000 square foot gas station and convenience store was well-involved in flames when the first Kern County fire crews arrived just after  4 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the convenience store, saving the attached restaurant from damage according to a news release.

The loss is valued at $500,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
