Garage fire spreads in southwest Bakersfield blaze

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A reinforced fire in southwest Bakersfield caused serious damage to two homes Friday afternoon.

The fire broke out at around 6 p.m. Friday in the 8900 block of Gleeson Court in southwest Bakersfield, near Gosford and Old River roads.

Neighbors to the homes said that they spotted the quick moving flames and rushed to alert other residents in the area.

The Bakersfield Fire Department said the fire started in one garage of one of the homes. It quickly spread to the garage of the home next door.

The damage to both homes and nearby vehicles is estimated at $205,000. Fire investigators are still looking into what caused the blaze.
