Former councilman sentenced in 2nd teen sex case
Daniel Shane Reed is sentenced Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, in Kern County court for sexual encounters with a 13-year-old boy. The former Tehachapi City Council member had already been sentenced for having sex with a 16-year-old boy.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A former Tehachapi City Council member was sentenced Wednesday to a decade in prison for his second sexual encounter with a young boy.

Daniel Shane Reed, who is also a former Kern County firefighter, was already incarcerated for having sex with a different teenage boy. The newest crimes occurred while he was released on bail in the prior case.

Reed is required to register as a sex offender. He also received credit for 298 days served.

Case No. 1

In the first case, Reed was accused of having both anal and oral sex with a 16-year-old Tehachapi boy, whom he met through the boy's friend during a trip to Pismo Beach in February 2011.

He took the boy shopping and out to eat, and the two exchanged text messages and had rendezvous at motels, according to court documents.

Reed pleaded no contest in October 2011 to one misdemeanor count of annoying or molesting a child and one felony count of contact with a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense.

He was sentenced in January to two years in prison.

Case No. 2

While out on bail during the original court case, Reed met and had sex with a 13-year-old boy.

Reed was accused of having oral sex with the boy.

He met with the boy in July and September 2011, according to court documents. The boy told investigators that he first met Reed online and then in person near his grandmother's house in east Bakersfield and at Reed's brother's house in Tehachapi.

Reed pleaded no contest in July to a count of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14. Two similar counts were dismissed.
