Former Bakersfield police employee accused of embezzling $45,000

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A former employee of the Bakersfield Police Department is accused of embezzling about $45,000 from the nonprofit Bakersfield Police Benefit Association.

Amy Christine Powers, who served as senior police records clerk and treasurer of the nonprofit group, allegedly stole the money between 2008 and early this year, the Kern County District Attorney's Office said Monday.

Prosecutors have filed a compliant with three felony counts.

The Kern County jail's website doesn't show Powers in custody.
