Flash flood warning until 4 p.m. for mountain communities

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- A flash flood warning was issued Saturday afternoon for South Central Kern County.

The National Weather Service said the warning was issued after reports from the public indicated flash flooding from a thunderstorm around 1 p.m.

The warning runs until 4 p.m. for Lebec, Pine Mountain Club, Frazier Park and the Grapevine. While those communities were named in the alert, the NWS noted the flooding wasn't necessarily limited to those areas.

The warning means that flooding is occurring or is imminent.

Excessive rainfall from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, highways and underpasses and other low-lying areas.

The alert warns that most flood-related deaths occur in automobiles, so vehicles should not be driven into areas where water covers the roadway.
