BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Police were asked to shut down traffic to an eastside neighborhood late Tuesday as city fire crews responded to a fire in the 100 block of South King Street.
Several people called 911 just after 10:30 p.m., reporting smoke and flames shooting from a home.
It took crews less than 20 minutes to knock down the fire, and they managed to contain damage to just the garage.
The fire is considered suspicious because there were no utilities hooked up to the home and no one was living there.
One firefighter was taken to a local hospital after the incident for injuries that were said to be minor.
Damage was estimated between $40,000 and $50,000.
