Driver surrenders for crash that killed teen girl

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man surrendered this morning in Kern County court for a crash last fall that left a teen girl dead.

Iman Badia Amin, 17, was killed in November when the Mercedes-Benz she was riding in crashed into a block neighborhood wall off Harris Road near Old River Road.

The driver, 23-year-old Cesar Duarte, lost control, hit a light pole and the block wall, and flipped the vehicle. He suffered minor injuries in the crash, police said.

Duarte surrendered on a warrant charging him with second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of DUI.

He pleaded not guilty, and bail was set at $1.25 million.
