Dozens brave cold for candlelight vigil for Lake Isabella baby
LAKE ISABELLA, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Though she was only 15-months old, Sophialynn Marie Taylor was advanced in many ways for her age. She was already picking up sign language to communicate with a deaf family member.

"The last thing she learned was, 'I love you,'" said her mother, Amanda Reese.

Dozens of people braved a cold night Tuesday to attend a candlelight vigil to honor the baby, who died under mysterious circumstances at her home during the early morning hours Saturday.

Sheriff's investigators were called after the child was brought to Kern Valley Hospital.

"It's not fair that our little girl was not only taken from her mother and her family ..." said the baby's grandmother Tina Reese before choking up, unable to complete her sentence.

Amanda Reese was initially arrested but is no longer in custody. However, her live-in boyfriend, 24-year-old Jared Ramirez, was in court Tuesday and charged with the murder of Sophialynn, as well as child abuse resulting in the death of the baby.

Ramirez pleaded not guilty. His bail was set at just over $1 million.

The family could not comment on the case, because it is now making its' way through the court system. The baby's death has been ruled a homicide and the investigation is ongoing.
