Delano woman heads to Colorado for wildfire relief

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A Delano woman is headed to Colorado to volunteer with the American Red Cross in its wildfire relief.

Kathleen Heinz will deploy early Tuesday for Larimer, Colo. She will serve as a client services supervisor for two weeks, helping volunteers who are directly assisting individuals affected by the wildfires, according to the Red Cross' Kern County chapter.

Colorado is having its worst fire season since the drought-stricken year of 2002. In northern Colorado, authorities announced that the High Park Fire had destroyed 248 homes, up from 191. That fire has killed one woman and scorched more than 130 square miles and was just 45 percent contained Monday, according to The Associated Press.
