BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man accused in a deadly shooting was in court for the first time Monday, but his arraignment was postponed for a week.

Joseph Mendez, 19, is accused of killing 20-year-old Cody Harris last week at Kalibo Park in Delano. He was found and arrested in San Bernardino County.

Mendez faces a first-degree murder charge.

Harris' father told Eyewitness News that his son's friend told him that Mendez identified himself as a gang member before opening fire. Harris was not in a gang, according to both police and his father.
