Deadly crash blocks I-5 near Mendota

MENDOTA, Calif. -- A deadly crash involving a flipped car blocked northbound traffic on Interstate 5 Saturday morning just north of Panoche Junction, California Highway Patrol said.

Officials from CHP said a vehicle flipped over onto its roof, killing one of the three passengers inside. The other two people were taken to a Fresno-area hospital.

California Highway Patrol said the crash blocked the first and second lane of I-5 north, backing traffic up for miles.

At around 12 pm Saturday CHP officials said the roadway was clear.

Crews at the scene of the crash directed traffic to the center divider to navigate around the overturned vehicle.
