BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield City Manager Alan Tandy is under investigation on suspicion of assault for an incident at the San Joaquin Community Hospital Ice Center over the weekend, according to the Kern County District Attorney's Office.

Tandy plays in a recreational hockey league, and the on-ice incident happened after a game.

City Attorney Ginny Gennaro told Eyewitness News the allegations were first brought to her by Bakersfield Police Chief Greg Williamson.

"The focus of my discussion with the chief was to make a determination whether it was in the best interests of the citizens of Bakersfield and the police department to handle this investigation in house or to give it to an outside agency," Gennaro said.

The investigation eventually ended up in the hands of the district attorney.

"Because of the resources available, the (district attorney) was in a better position to take it and have the investigation wrapped up quickly," Gennaro said.

Tandy's contract is currently under a scheduled evaluation by the City Council, which is expected to bring up the topic on June 25.
