BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A cyclist was killed Friday evening when he crossed into the path of an oncoming car on White Lane near South Real Road, according to Bakersfield police.

The cyclist was hit by an eastbound driver just after 6:30 p.m. and was killed instantly.

Police said the cyclist crossed into the driver's path just before he was hit.

The driver of the car that hit him was not speeding nor violating other rules. Officers said 24-year-old Veronica Salazar was also evaluated to make sure she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. She was not injured, but her car was not drivable and had to be towed away.

The cyclist was identified by coroner's investigators Saturday as 66-year-old Minas Hovsep Semerdjian.
