Covered California executive director visits Kern County

Covered California executive director visits Kern County
BAKERSFIELD, Calif, (KBAK/KBFX) — A top health care official spoke in Kern County on Wednesday about California’s new health care exchange under the Affordable Care Act.

Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee spoke at Clinica Sierra Vista. The east Bakersfield clinic has had 46 people become certified enrollment counselors to help people through the enrollment process.

Lee said Covered California had more than 177,000 people complete applications for health care in October.

According to Covered California, almost 60,000 enrollment applications were started from Nov. 9 through Nov. 16.

Lee also said the Covered California website has been much more successful than the much-maligned federal health exchange website.

"Our website is working just fine," said Lee. "Actually, 70 percent of people that go through the enrollment process online said it was easy."

Lee also said to expect statistics Thursday on 19 regions throughout California. He said that will help focus on how Kern County is responding to Covered California.
