Coroner IDs decomposed body as 18-year-old woman
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County coroner's office released the name Friday of an alleged homicide victim found this week in a decomposed state in a detached garage.

Mia Ramirez, 18, was found dead Tuesday after residents in the 900 block of Vista Street, near Niles and Oswell, called the sheriff's office about a foul smell and suspicious circumstances.

Officials said the body was badly decomposed, and the coroner's office didn't specify a cause or date of death.

Eddie Rivas, 20, was arrested and would likely be charged late Friday or early Monday with murder, according to deputy district attorney Andrea Kohler.

Neither the district attorney's office nor the sheriff's office have commented on alleged motive.

A search of public records shows the home where the body was found belongs to a 53-year-old woman with the same last name as the suspect.

Court records show Rivas was arrested in April 2011 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer or fireman, possessing a stolen vehicle, reckless evading of a police officer, participating in a criminal street gang and resisting arrest. He later pleaded to the assault charge, for which he was sentenced in June 2011 to three years in prison.
