BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department is letting the public know about a recent trend of cellphone thefts.

Since January, BPD says there have been more than 30 thefts or robberies involving phones.

The department wants you to keep some things in mind in order to prevent yourself from becoming a victim:

- Use a password or passcode on your phone.
- Keep your phone's serial number in a safe place to relay to law enforcement if your phone is stolen.
- Install an app that will allow you to locate your phone if it is lost or stolen.

Sgt. Joe Grubbs said it's important to be aware of your surroundings.

Anyone with information regarding cases like these is asked to call the police at (661) 327-7111.
