CHP officers accused of sexual assault after DUI stop

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Two California Highway Patrol officers have been accused of sexually assaulting a suspected drunk driver.
Kern County deputies were called Sunday to a Bakersfield home, where a woman told them she was assaulted two days earlier.
The woman was pulled over Friday morning by a sheriff's deputy in the area of Merle Haggard Drive and Highway 99. That deputy suspected her of driving under the influence and called the CHP to conduct a DUI investigation.
The deputy who conducted the traffic stop left the scene after handing the situation over to two CHP officers.
The woman alleged the CHP officers agreed to follow her to her home instead of arresting her for DUI. One of the officers allegedly sexually assaulted the woman in her bedroom, the sheriff's office said Monday.
The CHP is cooperating with the investigation, according to the sheriff's office. The accused officers have been identified, but no arrests have been made.
Why have we heard nothing about this case since? They were accused like so many of the subjects of news stories here. Their names were not released and we still don't know who to be concerned about if we come in contact with them. The District Attorney is clearly going to let this case die on the vine since they have yet to do anything.
And it took 2 days for her to sober up enough to report it. Sounds like a ploy to me.

You're a real tool.
Well, I am wondering why the Sheriff's Department didn't conduct their own alleged DUI test. Another question, is Why did she wait two days to call The Sheriff's Department to file a complaint? I am NOT taking the side of the CHP or the Sheriff's Department. It is obvious from past stories , that BPD, The Sheriff''s Department, and the CHP has had their fair share of Alleged complaints. My suggestion to the woman who made the complaint, is to get a GOOD ATTORNEY! The old saying, "You can't fight city hall.," is not true. Though the city hall is not the one who made the stop, nor the one who TURNED it over to another Long arm of the law so to speak; she has every right to QUESTION the STOP, and QUESTION the reason the Sheriff's Department turned it over to the CHP. Sounds to me like someone was in a hurry to go somewhere else, or at the very least wasn't sure she was truly Under The Influence. Also, was this an observation the Sheriff's Department made? Was this a 911 call that prompted the stop?
Sheriff deputies, unless working contract cities, don't investigate traffic related crimes, thus the reason for the investigation being handed off to the CHP. The CHP doesn't investigate domestic crimes, spousal abuse, homicide, robbery, etc... Sheriff deputies, however do work those types of crimes and if a CHP officer discovered a domestic type crime, they hand the investigation over to deputies. Don't be so critical if you don't know how something works. Deputies ask the CHP to take over DUI investigations every day. Just be glad they're out there stopping drunk drivers even if they don't conduct the investigation.

This story is written like someone heard it from someone, who heard it from someone. There is no official spokesperson named from the KC Sheriffs office confirming the story and no official from the CHP confirming cooperation. The facts drive the case. The media coverage blows these days. No names or actual facts, just here is what we THINK or kind-of what had happen and we MIGHT follow it up with actual facts at a later date. But until then, we just can't wait for the readers to jump to conclusions!! This story could have waited until you had more factual information that was confirmed my named spokespersons for both KC Sheriffs and CHP.
The story cites the Kern County Sheriff's Office as the agency reporting the allegations. The story was written from a written department news release, thus no individual was available for attribution. Neither the sheriff's department nor the California Highway Patrol released the names of the accused or the accuser. It's our duty to report the information from the sheriff's office as soon as we receive it, even though everyone would like more information.
