BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - The driver might have been intoxicated early Friday in a fiery crash on Highway 99, the California Highway Patrol said.

Evelyn Quirones, 21, of Wasco, plowed her car into the back of a semitruck around 1:15 a.m. on northbound Hwy. 99 north of 7th Standard Road. Quirones was traveling at a high-rate of speed, and "alcohol may be a contributing factor," according to the CHP.

Quirones's car got pinned under the back of the truck and caught fire. Quirones suffered minor injuries, and her passenger, 26-year-old Biridiana Rios, of Wasco, suffered a major head injury, the CHP said.

The crash is still under investigation.
