Bomb squad responds to suspicious package at hospital

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The bomb squad responded to San Joaquin Community Hospital after an employee found a suspicious package in a trash can early Monday morning, Bakersfield Police told Eyewitness News.

A security guard pickedup the package and too it outside to 27th Street.

The bomb squad closed 27th Street between Chester Avenue and H Street for 3 hours while they investigated.

During the closure, all emergency patients were diverted to an alternate entrance. The hospital was not evacuated.

The bomb squad eventually determined the package was not explosive.
