DELANO, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The discovery of a suspicious package in a trash can at Delano Regional Medical Center prompted the evacuation of the emergency room and OB/GYN wing Wednesday afternoon.

Kern County Sheriff's Office bomb squad members used a robot to remove the item, which Delano police Sgt Pete Lopez described as a number of cellphones and some ink that had been improperly disposed.

The item, initially thought to possibly be a bomb, was discovered around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The all-clear was given shortly before 3 p.m.
