BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - A gruesome discovery was made by firefighters Saturday morning behind a popular Bakersfield shopping center.

The charred remains of a human body were found inside a burning vehicle.

Firefighters responded to the call of a possible trash fire around 7 a.m.

They found a four-door vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Once the fire was out, they found the unrecognizable remains of a human.

The burned car with the body inside was located just south of the train tracks off Gosford Road and Young Street, behind the Kohl's shopping center.

Police said the body was so badly burned, age and gender could not be determined.

Police released very few details. The coroner's office will be doing the identification of the body and then release the name after the victim's family is notified.

Investigators said at this point they don't have any evidence to show it's foul play, nor do they have any evidence to show it's not foul play.
