Blind Biker
Brad Waldron leads Bobby McMullen on a bike ride past McKegney Field on Jan. 24, 2013 in Tiburon, Calif. McMullen is an avid and accomplished skier, mountain biker, and road cyclist who is also blind. McMullen's friends act as guides by shouting descriptions of turns and aberrations on the road to McMullen when they go on bike rides. He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 12, and lost his sight in 1992 due to ocular bleeding. Despite the setback, he trained with a blind Paralympics skier and went on to become the national blind ski champion in 1996 in super giant slalom and downhill.
