BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A bicyclist was arrested Friday morning after a short chase with a Kern County deputy and the discovery of stolen mail and drugs inside his backpack.

The sheriff's office said the deputy tried stopping the cyclist around 5 a.m. in the area of Water Street and River Boulevard because the cyclist wasn't wearing safety reflectors.

The cyclist, whose name was withheld, wouldn't immediately stop peddling.

A sheriff's dog was also used in the arrest.
