BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A bear was captured Thursday morning after running free in a northeast Bakersfield neighborhood.

The female bear, roughly 1 to 1½ years old, likely ended up in the City in the Hills area after coming down the Kern River channel, a California Department of Fish and Wildlife worker said.

Department of Fish and Wildlife officials were called by Bakersfield police and found the animal in a pine tree. After other attempts to get the bear out of the tree failed, they tranquilized the bear.

She should be fine and will be relocated to an undisclosed forest area, the Department of Fish and Wildlife official said.
