Bakersfield zoning board denies assisted living home request
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Board of Zoning Adjustment voted Tuesday to deny an application to transform a downtown home into an assisted living facility.

Property Ventures LLC owns the home, located at 2525 18th St., and was requesting a conditional use permit to establish a 12-bed facility on the property.

Neighbors opposing the plan presented a petition containing 50 signatures at a board meeting Tuesday afternoon.

They voiced concerns about increased traffic, lack of parking and changing the character of the neighborhood to add a nonresidential building.

Despite the board’s rejection of the city permit, Property Ventures still has the right to build a facility housing up to six beds.

They say they will still move forward with the plan to build a 12-bed facility in the hopes that the city will approve a permit in the future.
