Bakersfield woman's death ruled a homicide

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Police said the mysterious death of a 55-year-old Bakersfield woman has been ruled a homicide.

On the night of Dec. 14, Cheryl Midgett was found dead inside her home in southwest Bakersfield after police responded to a burglar alarm call.

Over four months later, the coroner ruled Midget's death to be asphyxia secondary to strangulation.

The woman's son, Bryan Midgett, told Eyewitness News that his mother, who was nicknamed Cami, mentioned her life could be in danger just days before she was found dead.

Bryan Midgett, who lives in Hawaii, said he's thought her death was suspicious since she passed in mid-December. Bryan told Eyewitness News that his mother mentioned being scared of her boyfriend during the last conversation they had together.

If you have any information about the death of Cheryl Midgett, you are urged to call the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.
