BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A local businessman has stepped up to offer bus service between Bakersfield and Los Angeles International Airport.

Phil Rudnik announced he is starting the Airport Valet Express. The site of the potential bus station is at 201 New Stine Road in southwest Bakersfield.

Rudnik wants to have two buses providing two round trips each day. Each bus would hold about 50 passengers.

Rudnik said he hopes to have it running by Dec. 19.

A one-way ticket would be $49.Round-trip tickets would be $89. Travel agent Sarah Reshaw said it’s a bargain.

"This service is critical to Bakersfield. It was really devastating when the Airport Bus closed," said Reshaw.

So, what’s going to be successful about this shuttle when the last one couldn’t last one week?

Reshaw and Rudnik believe it’s the fact that Rudnik is local, working in Bakersfield for over 50 years.

"I am tightly committed to the community and the people here," he said. "We have to have the community support it."
