BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - The police department is beginning a Citizen Volunteer Unit for those "interested in law enforcement and volunteering with a commitment to service," according to a news release.
The unit will require applicants to attend a one-night-a-week, four-week course. Duplicate classes will be offered twice during each week to afford flexibility to the attendees.
The course will introduce volunteers to a variety of police-related functions, including citizen patrol and clerical assistance. All classes will be held at the police department headquarters at 1601 Truxtun Ave.
Those interested should pick up an application at the downtown headquarters or at the Westside Police Sub Station, 1301 Buena Vista Road. Call Carina Ortiz at (661) 326-3052 for answers to questions about the program.
