Bakersfield natives in Germany show support for Boston Marathon victims

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield native Taylor Brightwell said she wanted to show "that no matter how far away from tragedy, one can always make a difference and show their support."

So, after deadly bombs ripped through the Boston Marathon, Brightwell organized a run/walk of remembrance and support for the victims.

And, while Bakersfield is a long ways from Boston, Brightwell's kind gesture came from an even farther place - Germany.

Her husband, Devyn Brightwell, is in the Army, and the couple were stationed in Vilseck, Germany, last summer.

The Brightwells, who both attended East High School, held the U.S. Army Families Remember Boston 5K Run/Walk on April 27. The event was attended by 150 soldiers, spouses, children and German nationals, she said.
