Bakersfield man arrested in DoD fraud case

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A Department of Defense contractor was arrested Tuesday on 28 counts of wire fraud.

Alejandro Villarreal, 31, of Bakersfield, was the president and manager of Oliver Supplies, and over a period of two years he allegedly substituted "similar" goods of inferior value or quality while servicing DoD contracts.

He billed approximately $251,214 on these contracts, according to federal prosecutors.

If convicted, Villarreal faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count, the government said.
