Bakersfield Chamber names new president, CEO

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Local businesses have a new champion.

Cindy Pollard was announced Friday as the president and CEO for the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce. She replaces Debbie Moreno, who announced her retirement in May.

Pollard's resume includes more than 30 years of experience in public and media relations, government relations and corporate communications. She's a Bakersfield native who is leaving her post as manager of local government relations for Pacific Gas and Electric Co.

Prior to joining PG&E, Pollard owned a local public relations firm. She's also served as director of public information and publications for Bakersfield College and worked for Walt Disney Productions and Kaiser Permanente in Southern California, where she had training and organizational-consulting responsibilities, the Chamber said.

Pollard holds degrees from Highland High School, the University of Southern California and the University of LaVerne.

She's also been involved with the Chamber for more than 25 years, serving as a volunteer, business member, board member and committee member.

"The Chamber is very excited to have Cindy take the lead," said board chairman Tim Terrio in a news release. "Debbie has done a great job building the Chamber to a very strong, well-respected entity, and we feel Cindy will continue to build upon our past successes."

The Bakersfield Chamber has more than 1,500 member businesses representing more than 57,000 employees. More than 85 percent of the Chamber's membership is made up of small businesses, according to its website.
