Bail upped to $2 million for DUI, domestic violence suspect

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Bail was increased Wednesday for Joseph Maine, a man accused of driving drunk and killing a pregnant woman, and, in a separate case, domestic violence.

Maine was led away in handcuffs after his bail was increased to $2 million during a Kern County court hearing.

Maine is accused in a DUI crash in January at Fairview Road and Monitor Street that killed a pregnant woman, 22-year-old Vanessa Carillo, and her unborn daughter.

Last week, while free on bail, Maine was arrested on suspicion of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant.

He faces six charges from the January crash, including two counts of second-degree murder.
