BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Teachers and staff in the Bakersfield City School District say they have had enough of waiting for a raise. Now, they are stopping up the pressure.

It was a sea of red in the audience Tuesday night at the latest school board meeting. Teachers and support staff filled the meeting room, sending a strong message to the board members.

teachers say they haven't received a pay raise since 2007.

Michelle Johnson said that the 1,400-plus employees deserve fair compensation. She said a 7 percent raise is a step in the right direction.
