BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A DUI attorney who is accused of killing his wife returned to court Tuesday to face a stiffer charge.

The criminal complaint against Mark Madrigali was amended during the hearing, charging him with murder. Madrigali was initially charged with attempted murder, assault with a gun and spousal abuse. Trivia Madrigali was shot June 12 in the couple's home, but she didn't die until earlier this month.

Madrigali told police that the shooting "was an accident," according to court documents. His wife was found lying face down in a pool of blood on the living room floor. Police recovered numerous weapons at the home and said Madrigali used a shotgun to shoot his wife.
