BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Three Kern County babies were laid to rest Saturday, months after being abandoned.
The garden was established in Bakersfield after the story of a newborn found in a garbage canister in Oildale in June gained national attention.
Each of the babies were named prior to burial. The infant found in the dumpster was named Gabriella by a sheriff's deputy who worked on the case.
"To actually get buried in this garden, a child has to be declared abandoned by the coroner's office," said Dave Hepburn with Union Cemetery.
The other two infants were boys who were named David and Michael. Garden officials said only that their bodies had gone unclaimed.
