SAN DIEGO (AP) — A former California Highway Patrol officer has been convicted of bribery and perjury in San Diego County for dismissing a woman's speeding ticket in exchange for sex.

Abram Carabajal smiled when the judge read the verdicts Monday. He faces up to five years in state prison for the felony charges.

The court has acquitted the woman he pulled over, of subordination of perjury, giving a bribe and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Prosecutors say Carabajal pulled over 48-year-old Shirin Zarrindej for speeding on March 12, 2008, then at some point, developed a relationship with her.

The 53-year-old Carabajal resigned from the CHP after being placed under investigation. He will remain free on bail until his sentencing scheduled for Sept. 10.
