TAFT, Calif. -- Kern County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting death they consider suspicious.

Deputies were called Sunday to the 200 block of Jefferson Street on a report of a shooting, according to a sheriff's office news release. When they arrived, they found 46-year-old James Lawrence Cash suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

There were two adults and two children home at the time of the shooting, and all of those people have cooperated with the investigation, the sheriff's office said.

The gun used in the shooting was recovered and no suspects have been identified.

The coroner's office called the shooting "suspicious" in its news release, and the sheriff's office said the investigation is continuing.
