BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Assemblywoman Jean Fuller announced Friday that she'll seek a seat in the state Senate.

Fuller has represented the 32nd Assembly District since 2007. Now, she said she wants to represent the 18th Senate District.

"Over the last several years, the state of California has faced numerous budget deficits and stalled economic growth. This has all been exacerbated by Sacramento's overall lack of action," Fuller said in a news release announcing her candidacy. "As state senator, I will continue to fight for the water rights of those in the Central Valley, promote cutting duplicative programs, streamlining the bureaucratic process and removing unnecessary and onerous environmental regulations."

Fuller serves as the vice chair of the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee and is a member of the State Allocation Board, the Assembly Agriculture Committee, the Assembly Utilities and Commerce Committee, and the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance.

Other Republicans have expressed interest in the 18th Senate District seat, which is being vacated by the termed-out Roy Ashburn. Kern County District Attorney Ed Jagels said Wednesday that he's considering running for the seat, though he would consider Fuller's yet-to-be-announced candidacy in his decision.
