Truck loaded with hazardous chemicals catches fire

Kern County Fire crews have extinguished a hazardous blaze in northwest Bakersfield that began Tuesday afternoon.
Reports came in through the California Highway Patrol that the bed of a service truck was fully engulfed near 7th Standard Rd. & Santa Fe Way just before 4:00pm. The truck is reportedly loaded with chemicals that include nitrogen and saline, along with oxygen and gasoline. One tank may have also blown up in the incident.
Early reports indicate that the driver of the truck has suffered burns to his hands. Fire crews seem to have extinguished the blaze, but are still investigating. 7th Standard Road & Santa Fe Way were shut down for a brief time while crews worked on putting the fire out.
