Tires slashed in Arvin neighborhood
ARVIN, Calif. -- Neighbors in the 900 block of Austin Court in Arvin woke up on Christmas eve to find their tires had been slashed. Some time after 6, someone took a knife and started cutting tires on vehicles that were parked in driveways or on the street.

"This puts me and my family stuck in Arvin. We can't go to Bakersfield where our family is (for Christmas)" said an angry neighbor, Olivia Matthews.

Two of the tires on her GMC Envoy had been slashed. The vehicle sat in the driveway tilted to one side where the tires had been cut.

Other vehicles had up to three tires vandalized. One car had two tires slashed and its windshield busted. Around 20 cars on the block had been damaged.

If someone saw something, no one is talking much to the frustration of the victims. The damage is costly, say neighbors who have spent what little money they had on Christmas.

All of the victims who were vandalized live in public housing. But Arvin police say that does not appear to be related and are treating it as a random case of vandalism.

Anyone with information about this is urged to call Arvin police at 854-3128.
